Since youth they told him about him --
The wise white man from Israel
Who could make the work easier,
And who deplored violence
Against the house.
A few cotton-picken summers later
squinting into a punishing sky,
He blinked,
Attracting another white man,
A teacher of the truth,
Whose whip came down
Shredding the tale.
